The Hyundai Elantra (Korean: 현대 엘란트라), or Hyundai Avante (현대 아반떼) in South Korea, is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai, from 1990 to present, now in its fifth generation.
The Elantra was formerly marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model.[1] This gave rise to disagreement from other motor manufacturers, and the name was standardized as “Elantra” worldwide in 2001 (with the exception being Korea; Malaysia now uses the “Elantra” name, forsaking the “Avante” of old[2]).

The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) in South Korea, is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent’s predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets retained the “Accent” name. The Hyundai Verna is marketed in the U.S. as the Hyundai Accent.
